The commemorative space at the Hallett Cove foreshore is a significant accomplishment for our local area and one of my proudest achievements in my time in public life.

However, as many locals will know, this is only the first stage in a Hallett Cove Beach Master Plan. Further stages of this plan include play space and reserve improvements and these have now been designed in further detail, with the City of Marion recently undergoing consultation on revised designs.

I am fully supportive of the revised master plan and believe that, when delivered in its entirety, it will transform this important geographical and social area. Aspects of the master plan that I am particularly supportive of include the plan for a grand central amphitheatre, the creation of additional parking, a paved plaza space in front of the Boatshed Cafe (where you currently look out at a carpark) and the inclusion of an extensive and educative play space. One area I suggested the council look at is access to the beach for kayakers in this area – a matter that is raised with me regularly.

The Hallett Cove Foreshore has been greatly underused compared to its potential and I am excited to be part of its transformation going forward, turning it into a hub of activity and an important community space. This development will enhance our community by providing access for people with disabilities, protecting the environment through water sensitive urban design, and importantly providing amenities that our families can enjoy well into the future.

I do not want the Hallett Cove Beach Master Plan to remain a plan. I want it to happen and I am actively working with the local community and the City of Marion to ensure that it becomes a reality.
