I am delighted to let you know that this week State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall asked me to join the South Australian Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for the Environment. For me, this is a dream job (second only to being the actual Minister) and I accepted immediately.

I have been proud to call myself an environmentalist since I was in primary school and it was my love for South Australia’s environment and my work with Hallett Cove’s Friends of the Lower Field River that that led me into public life when I put my hand up to serve on Marion Council in 2010; a journey which later saw me enter State Parliament.

For those of you who have followed my work in our local community, you would know that I have placed the preservation of our natural environment (and particularly our coastline) at the heart of my work, including embedding it in my six community priorities .

In my elected role it has been fantastic to further this environmental work by developing the vision for Glenthorne National Park, Adelaide's second metropolitan national park and a concept which would see the preservation and revitalisation of large portions of open space in our southern suburbs. If elected as part of a Marshall Liberal Government in 2018, I will be the Minister responsible for making this vision a reality.

While there are many challenges involved in caring for South Australia’s precious natural environment, I am confident that I can make a positive contribution to a portfolio which makes South Australia the place we love to call home.

Of course, while I am honoured to have entered the Shadow Cabinet, serving our local community will always be my primary focus and I will continue to represent these beautiful coastal suburbs with the undiminished passion, creativity and tenacity that I have worked hard to bring to the role since my election in 2014.
