I am pleased that, after significant pressure, the Transport Department finally resurfaced one section of the road. However, despite this small improvement, there is still much work to be done to ‘fix Brighton Road’ and I will continue to push for immediate improvements such as further resurfacing and long-term strategic improvements including a railway overpass at Hove.
One of the most pressing problems facing Brighton Road is the condition of the road surface. At various points in the road the surface is broken and in need of urgent repair and/or resurfacing.
Since my election I have frequently been contacted by people regarding the deteriorating condition of Brighton Road.
The state government recently announced that it will install bicycle lanes on Brighton Road, from Jetty Road, Glenelg, through to Clubhouse Road, Seacliff Park.
The bicycle lanes on this section of Brighton Road will operate from 7.00 am to 10.00 am in the morning and from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm in the afternoon. While I am supportive of better cycling infrastructure around the state, I strongly believe that the hours of operation for this bike lane are too long.
