On Australia Day we officially launched Beach for All, with the roll out of South Australia’s first beach access mat at Seacliff. The first user was Seacliff Park resident Charlie Rowland who has spinal muscular atrophy and seeing him on the beach for the first time in years was a very special moment, with lots of tears shed.
Our beaches are beautiful and I can't imagine not being able to walk across the sand to dip my toes in the water, have a paddle or swim. Yet too many people in our community can't reach the water's edge due to their physical health holding them back. Beaches aren't the friendliest places for wheelchairs and crossing sand can also be difficult for people using walking sticks and frames.
